32,000 meals served to low income children

Hamilton Hill Food Processors prepared and served over 32,000 meals during last school year for low income children enrolled in Schenectady’s Head Start program. Many of those children receive their only hot meals from the Hamilton Hill Food Processors.
“It feels great knowing we provided over 32,000 meals last year to our community’s children. Feeding children keeps the fire of our futures burning.” Hamilton Hill Food Processors Chef Instructor, Dale Litz said.
The Hamilton Hill Food Processors has been preparing high quality, nutritious, and low cost meals to area daycare centers and Head Start programs since September of 2010. The meals which are prepared in the Hamilton Hill Food Processors kitchen are then delivered to multiple sites where they are served to the children.
“The meals which are served to the children are highly nutritious and are most importantly kid friendly” project director Vincent Ross says. Schenectady Community Action Program’s Director of Early Childhood Education Keith Houghton adds “They make this food extremely palatable to the children who really are eating well. As we all know, being creative with a healthy meal is not always easy and they do a great job. “
The meals must meet strict nutrition guidelines. The program must meet the standards set forth buy the USDA’s Child and Adult Care Feeding Program (CACFP). The CACFP program helps daycare centers provide nutritious meals and snacks to infants and children.
